The Big 5 is a nickname that’s given to the major trade book publishers which are in the United States of America. These publishing companies are quite popular, and if these five companies are publishing your book or paper, then it is considered to be very prestigious. The big five was formally known as the Big 6 buy the random house officially merged in the year 2013.

The headquarters of these 5 companies are in New York, United States of America. The big 5 publishers mostly have divisions in the United States but are based on many foreign countries. This article talks about the 5 big book publishers, and the following are the big 5 trade book publishing companies:

  • Hachette Book group.
  • HarperCollins.
  • Macmillan publishers.
  • Penguin Random House.
  • Simon and Schuster.

Hachette Book group:

The Hachette Book group is one of the world’s second-largest trade and educational book publishers in the world. Hachette livre is a subsidiary of the French media company and is based in France. The divisions of the Hachette Book group are Grand Central Publishing, faith words, center street, orbit,  Yen Press,  Hachette audio and Hachette digital.

The company’s first digital romance line is Hachette’s Romance line and about yours forever.

HarperCollins:

The HarperCollins is led by the Rupert Murdoch and is a subsidiary of News Corp. The HarperCollins was first named as J.  And J.  Harper which was I initially named after the founder brothers,  James and John Harper in the year 1817. Later the company because Harper brothers in the year 1987 and git acquired by NewsCorp.

In the year 1990, the NewsCorp acquired the William Collins and Sons and then formed the worldwide book group.

Some of the HarperCollins publishers are William Morrow, Avon books, broadside books,  Harper business, Harper Collins children, Harper teens, Ecco Book,  Newmarket Press,  Harper ones, Harper Audio.

Macmillan Publishers:

The Macmillan publishers are owned by a German company called Verlagsgruppe Georg Von Holtzbrink and also has its imprints I’m the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa and many places all around the world.

Some of the publishers of Macmillan include Farrar, Straus, Henry Holt, Picador,  St. Martin’s Press, Macmillan audio,  Macmillan’s children’s publishing group.

Macmillan is very popular in publishing children’s academic books and college academic books.

Penguin Random House:

The Penguin random house is an international publishing giant and is owned by a German company named Bertelsmann. The Penguin Random House has about 250 imprints and publishing houses, some of them are Random House Publishing Group, Kindersley, mass market paperbacks, and Random House Children’s books.

Simon and Schuster:

The Simon and Schuster were founded by Richard Simon and Lincoln Max Schuster in the year 1924. The Simon and Schuster have a different ordering which includes books for the adult publishing, children’s publishing, audio books and digital books arena.  Some of the imprints include Atria, Folger Shakespeare library, free press, Gallery Books, Howard Books, Pocket Books, Scribner, Threshold Editions, and touchstone.
